CHKD Teddy Bear Clinic at the Children’s Museum of Virginia

On Saturday, September 14, 2024, The Children’s Museum of Virginia held its annual Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Teddy Bear Clinic. This fun and educational event invited children from Hampton Roads to bring their favorite stuffed animals for a day of hands-on learning about health and wellness check-ups. Over 700 people attended this wonderful event!

The first 500 children received a free Teddy Bear. The Teddy Bears were purchased by Portsmouth Museums Foundation for The Children’s Museum of Virginia through the generosity of our donors. 

At the Teddy Bear Clinic, children were able to play the role of caregivers, working alongside local healthcare professionals to “diagnose” and “treat” their plush toys. The event aims to help young children feel more comfortable with healthcare settings, easing any anxieties they may have about doctor visits or medical procedures.

Observing the sheer joy, excitement, curiosity, and fun of children and their parents having the ability to explore and participate in hands-on activities that enhance learning while visiting the Children’s Museum with our adopted grandson, Dimitri, opened our eyes to the need for such a facility locally.
