Donation from Sentara Health leads to newly renovated and expanded BodyWorks Exhibit

On May 30, we celebrated the highly anticipated Grand Opening of our newest exhibit BODYWORKS at The Children’s Museum of Virginia. This new exhibit was made possible by a generous gift from Sentara. The $700,000 gift is the single largest corporate gift the Portsmouth Museums Foundation has received to date. We are grateful for their partnership and for their continued support of our Foundation’s mission.

Special thanks to the incredible Museums team, the City of Portsmouth, the Sentara representatives, and Portsmouth Museums Foundation board members who were able to attend this exciting event. It was a group effort, and we are all so proud to present the Bodyworks exhibit which promotes getting active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We hope you’ll have the opportunity to check it out soon!

"Making a Difference"

Observing the sheer joy, excitement, curiosity, and fun of children and their parents having the ability to explore and participate in hands-on activities that enhance learning while visiting the Children’s Museum with our adopted grandson, Dimitri, opened our eyes to the need for such a facility locally. Dimitri’s fascination with the train exhibit and touring Molly the Train caused us to plan many visits for him. We will continue to donate to the Children’s Museum and Portsmouth Museums Foundation in hopes of keeping this local treasure available to the youth of Hampton Roads.

"Honored to Support"

Being a mother, grandmother, and now great grandmother, I have been involved in organizations that are not only in need of financial support, but are also dedicated to bringing joy in a playful and educational atmosphere to children of all ages. It has been an honor being a board member of the Portsmouth Museums Foundation, Inc., with a group of dedicated individuals that are continually working to fulfill its mission in raising funds for the Children’s Museum of Virginia to ensure that generations of children to come would be able to experience its wonder and excitement.
